Zoom! Teeth Whitening

Prior to selecting this option, a dentist will conduct a comprehensive examination of the patient’s teeth and gums, ensuring proper health. The dentist may also enquire about patients’ lifestyle habits and oral hygiene before making this recommendation. A dentist will advise regular teeth cleaning before proceeding with this type of teeth whitening procedure.

The whole process takes less than an hour. A dental assistant will begin the procedure by prepping the patient. This involves covering parts of the inside of the patient’s mouth such as their gums and leaving the teeth exposed. ZOOM hydrogen peroxide gel should then be applied to the teeth by either the dentist or the dental assistant. The gel works with light to break down stains and any discoloration on the teeth. This process lasts for 15 minutes as the gel is left on the teeth and the light remains activated. The patient is free to watch T.V or listen to music during this time.

This procedure is repeated three times for a total time of fifteen minutes. After treatment, the patient receives a Zoom home-use touch-up kit. This kit includes custom-fitted whitening trays. Patients are advised to follow instructions given by the dentist on the correct method of using the touch-up kit. Further instructions may include avoiding certain foods after treatment to prolong the effects of teeth whitening. These may include any kind of dark drinks such as tea or coffee as well as red wine etc.

Further suggestions by your dentist may include eliminating any tobacco products and using a toothpaste that contains whitening agents. During treatments, patients may experience slight discomfort from the Zoom light that produces minimum light. Slight tingling may be experienced after treatment but will quickly dissipate.

As with other teeth whitening products, it is recommended that pregnant women lactating and children under the age of 13 do not use this product. Treatment results may vary from patient to patient with some results being more dramatic than others. Some factors may need to be considered when reviewing results such as the stains prior to treatment. Cost for this procedure does vary but generally is around $500.
