Chao Pinhole Procedure

The Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique (PST®) makes a pinhole in the gum tissue and is used for treating gum recession. It is scalpel and suture-free, which makes it attractive for recovery and pain reasons. The procedure goes as follows:

  • A pinhole is created in the gum tissue near the infected part of the gum,
  • The gum tissue is pried and loosened via a special instrument,
  • The loosened gum tissue is then guided over the receded part of the gum.

The purpose of the procedure is to encourage receded gum tissue to take hold and begin growing where it has previously been present. It is used when gum disease or other external factors prompt the gums to recede.
